Hi, I’m Melissa Katsoris, but my friends call me Meli (Greek for honey). I grew up in New York in a Greek American family. We own a chocolate factory so I had many chocolate tanks, conveyor belts and truffles at my disposal, but no chocolate river (sorry to disappoint the Willy Wonka fans out there!). Yes, my childhood was interesting to say the least! Being raised in a Mediterranean family business was all you would expect it to be: crazy, loud, lots of food, and unlimited togetherness (as well as unlimited chocolate). My entrepreneurial family provided ample sources of inspiration and out of the ordinary experiences.
Throughout my life, I’ve taken every opportunity to travel. I studied abroad four times, took advantage of every break in college and law school, and had some truly authentic experiences with my family in Greece every summer. My love for travel fueled my interest in international relations and migration. After law school, I worked for the Greek Mission to the U.N. covering many topics including migration, political decolonization, humanitarian affairs, and the Security Council. With my extensive exposure to migration issues at the U.N., I became a U.S. Immigration Lawyer, which is now my current day job. In my professional and personal life, I continually expose myself to diverse and international people and experiences.
I started Meli On The Move to share my travel stories and provide travel tips to my readers for their own explorations. My goal is to offer guidance through my first hand experiences and encourage others to live like locals and explore the places they travel to. I share my itineraries, experiences, the local places I visited, and tips and tricks I learned along the way on my trips. I am adamant about having local experiences and supporting local people when I travel and I encourage you to do the same! Meli On The Move is a resource for travelers who want some guidance when planning their trips, with fun stories to keep them informed and excited for their travels ahead.
